Growing up in Louisiana it was a common Christmas tradition to have a red velvet cake for dessert. Depending on who was making the cake depended on which type of frosting was being used; the traditional sugar-flour frosting, a cream cheese frosting, or a buttercream frosting. Though all toppings are good, I love the buttercream frosting the best. Having a slice of this cake brings back a lot of cherished memories with my family. Serves approximately 16 people.
